Even out your monthly gas payments with Budget Bill.

Budget Bill Flat Rate Gas Bill

As the weather fluctuates throughout the year, budgeting for your natural gas bill isn’t always easy. Gas South can help you take the guesswork out of your natural gas bill with Budget Bill. This convenient plan helps you avoid the surprises that come from highs and lows of your monthly natural gas costs with a flat rate monthly bill—even in the winter.

Pay the same amount each month.

Gas South estimates the projected cost of your natural gas based on your past usage amounts and your rate plan. We divide your predicted bill amount into equal payments during your fixed rate term (or 12 months if you’re on a variable rate), and this is what you’ll owe on your bill. Since the amount is the same each month, Budget Bill makes it easier to plan for your energy expenses.

You’ll only pay for the gas you use.

Gas South keeps a running total of your actual charges and payments, and rolls your ending balance into your next Budget Bill plan. If you no longer choose to be on Budget Bill, we’ll refund the difference if there’s a credit or ask you to pay the outstanding balance. When it’s time to settle the difference, you’ll only pay for the gas you actually used and there’re no added fees.

Sound simple? It is. Take away the stress of the unknown by keeping your bill the same every month—and say goodbye to the gas bill guessing game with Budget Bill. Enroll anytime by logging into your Online Account Service (OAS) at GasSouth.com on your mobile device or via desktop, or call 877.472.4932.

10 (Brilliant) Tips for Saving Energy During the Holidays.

Feet keeping warm by a holiday fire

If you’re making your list and checking it twice, finding extra ways to save energy is always nice. Here’s how to cut back on your home-heating expenses this holiday season:

  1. Ask Santa to upgrade your thermostat. Investing in a newer thermostat (and programming it to lower the temperature certain times of the day in the winter) can save consumers more than 15% on energy costs.
  2. Let the sunshine in. Keep draperies and shades open during the day but remember to close them at night to reduce chill and cut down on drafts from cold windows.
  3. Deck the halls with LED lights. LED Christmas lights use 90% less electricity than regular Christmas lights and you can purchase them for about $10 a strand.
  4. Bake several dishes at once. If you’ll be doing a lot of cooking this season, take advantage of the energy that goes into warming your oven by baking as many dishes at once as possible.
  5. Turn lamps off when the tree is lit. You’ll have plenty of light (and can enjoy the peaceful ambiance) simply by using the light of the Christmas tree to illuminate the room.
  6. Lower the thermostat when the party starts. While hosting guests, turn down the heat since holiday cooking and having a few extra warm bodies automatically raises the temperature in your home.
  7. Find and seal leaks. Be sure to seal air leaks around pipes, chimneys, outlets and unfinished spaces. Don’t forget to caulk or weather-strip drafty doors and windows.
  8. Put holiday lights on a timer. Set the timer to turn lights onwhen it gets dark and off at bedtime. Aim to keep Christmas lights on for less than six hours a day.
  9. Close the damper when the fire is off. Keep your fireplace damper closed unless a fire is burning. Keeping the damper open is like leaving a window wide open because it allows air to escape out of the chimney.
  10. Unplug electronics before leaving town. TVs, DVD players, computers, printers, radios and many other electronics use energy even when they aren’t turned on. Take the time to disconnect these phantom energy users before going away for the holidays.

A Warm Welcome for Live! at The Battery Atlanta

When new neighbors move in, it’s Southern hospitality to extend a warm welcome and maybe even a warm pecan pie. So when the Braves moved into their new home at SunTrust Park, it was only appropriate that we spread the warmth with outstanding natural gas service.

Just as balls, bats and gloves are essential to baseball, Gas South is essential to fueling the fan experience at SunTrust Park and The Battery Atlanta. Gas South has been the official natural gas provider for the Atlanta Braves since 2008, and things are heating up at Live! at The Battery Atlanta this season.

With three restaurant concepts – Sports & Social, PBR Atlanta and Todd English Tavern – Live! at The Battery Atlanta is a go-to dining and entertainment destination. As the natural gas provider for Live!, Gas South helps fuel everything from the kitchen to the outdoor heaters.

“When evaluating a natural gas provider, Gas South’s standout customer service was a differentiating factor,” said Ben Brengle, director of operations for Live! at The Battery Atlanta. “Plus, partnering with a locally-operated company like Gas South has helped us build and expand our community relationships.”

In addition to providing natural gas, Gas South and Live! have established a collaborative business relationship that’s a real homerun. Although baseball season is the star of SunTrust Park, Live! hosts year-round events on the 284 days a year that there isn’t a home game.

Check out Live! at the Battery Atlanta’s website for upcoming events, including the movie series starting in August that are brought to you by Gas South. Hope to see you there!

5 Ways to Hack Your Move

Moving can be a tricky task. With boxes, newspaper and tape galore, it’s easy to lose your wits. Keep your cool and hack your move with these five simple tips:

  1. Get to Moving: Getting started can be the hardest part! Get your toolbox ready and tighten your toolbelt with these moving day essentials: packing tape, colored tape, box cutter, gloves, plastic wrap, etc.
  2. Keep It Together: Trinkets, treasures and tiny gadgets become casualties of a move far too often. Here’s a simple fix: place a sheet of plastic wrap around your utensil tray to keep forks, knives, spoons and other kitchen gear together—just where it belongs. You can do the same with your jewelry or bathroom vanity tray.
  3. Don’t Whine Over Broken Glasses: Say ‘pass’ to broken glass. Grab an old wine box and get to packing! And if you don’t already have one at home, you can usually snag one for free at a local package store. Use the pre-cut section dividers to safely store each piece of glassware and prevent scratching, breaking, chipping or cracking.
  4. Color Code Your Move: Instead of writing room names on packing boxes, you can use color coded tape to label your boxes for the right room. Designate a color to each room—let’s say green for the living room and blue for the kitchen. You’ll keep your boxes organized and your head on your shoulders. And if you have movers, they will easily be able to know what goes where!
  5. Just Roll with It: Rock and roll your heavy items all the way to your new home with this hack: pack your heavy items in a rolling suitcase. This nifty tip will help you carry a lot while lifting a little.

Bring the Heat to the YMCA of Metro Atlanta

Gas South is Bringing the Heat again this baseball season to fuel the good that our local nonprofits do for those in need. We are donating $25 every time an Atlanta Braves pitcher throws a strikeout at home games.

Last year, we donated more than $61,000 which was split between The Salvation Army of Metro Atlanta and the United Way of Greater Atlanta. Since the campaign’s inception in 2010, Gas South has contributed nearly $350,000 to local nonprofit organizations!

This year, Gas South is fueling another source of good – youth development. Did you know that one in five children, teens and families that go to the YMCA of Metro Atlanta need financial assistance to participate in the youth programs? The YMCA gives more than $161,000 in scholarships each year to kids that are unable to pay the program fee. In 2016, more than 23,500 kids across 20 branch locations participated in swimming, tennis, basketball, cheerleading, flag football, lacrosse, track and field, martial arts, and volleyball.

That’s why we are giving the donations for all Braves strikeouts thrown during April and May to the YMCA of Metro Atlanta – over $8,400!

The YMCA is dedicated to ensuring that no child is turned away, and we are proud that our partnership allows everyone the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Natural Gas 101: 5 Reasons Smart Thermostats are Worth the Cost

Today, it seems like every type of technology is going “smart” – from smartphones and smartwatches, to smart cars and smart thermostats. As smart thermostats such as The Nest grow in popularity, the reason why is no surprise: the energy-saving and cost-saving benefits are undeniable.

Want to know how smart thermostats can save you money? Here are five reasons why making the switch to a smart thermostat is the way to go.

Smart Thermostat Savings

  1. It can save you some cash. Only a few months after installation, a smart thermostat has the potential to save you a decent chunk of change. Three studies of Nest Learning Thermostat found that smart thermostat savings equal about 10 to 12 percent in heating costs and 15 percent in cooling costs in homes with central air conditioning. That can add up to more than $140 a year!  You can put those extra savings into a sweet vaycay to the beach during those cold, winter months —and then save even more by setting your smart thermostat to vacation mode.
  1. It learns on its own. What’s beautiful about this innovative product is that if you really wanted to, you could go without ever having to actually touch it. The device is considered a learning thermostat, meaning it can sense even the smallest change in temperature and adjust accordingly. So whether your oven is pushing extra heat into the room or the outdoor temperature unexpectedly dropped 10 degrees, your home temperature will automatically stay right where you want it.

Additionally, some thermostats come with a built-in occupancy sensor. After a week or so of manual adjustments, the system will begin to recognize your presence and adjust on its own. A smart thermostat will correct your home to the right temperature before you even realize the change.

  1. You can control it on-the-go. Most smart thermostats come paired with iPhone and Android apps that give you the power to control your heating and cooling system anywhere you are. If you opt-out for the learning thermostat and want to keep it basic, you can manually adjust the temperature of your home with a few swipes on your phone. With the unpredictability of the outdoor weather (especially in Georgia), this feature allows you to quickly snap into action so you can at least have temperature predictability in your own home.
  1. You get instant alerts. Another perk of smart thermostats is the ability to immediately receive updates through text, email or direct notifications. For example: If a cold front comes through and your thermostat adjusts to accommodate the drop in temperature, you can opt in to be alerted of this change, along with an explanation. If you feel that the adjustment was unwarranted, you have the option of immediately reversing the change. The thermostat will then learn your preference and take it into consideration when making future automatic adjustments.
  1. See how you save. Some smart thermostats offer you a monthly report outlining your energy usage. The easy-to-read tracking system offers you insights for why certain days spiked or how you can save even more next month. You can learn how your spending compares to other users and even be rewarded for using energy-efficient settings.

Making the switch to a smart thermostat is a smart move. During the winter months, it’s the perfect tool to cut down on natural gas usage and save some cash – even throughout those hot, humid Georgia summers!

Spreading Warmth and Holiday Cheer with The Salvation Army

A little warmth and kindness goes a long way, especially during the holiday season. That’s why Gas South employees were encouraged to play Santa by partnering with The Salvation Army for its annual Angel Tree program. Last year, employees generously donated gifts and toys to 50 Angels and this year, we’re spreading our wings once again. From apparel to toys, the goal is to make a difference in the lives of parents who are unable to provide gifts for their children and to instill hope in children who wish to “believe.”

Created in 1979, the Angel Tree program is the tree-topper to The Salvation Army’s many initiatives that help families in need during the holidays. Through donations, The Salvation Army of Metro Atlanta will spread cheer to more than 12,000 local boys and girls on Christmas morning.

There’s a lot that goes on “behind-the-wings” of this generous program: The Salvation Army identifies families in need of support during the holiday season and obtains a wish list for the children, or senior citizens. The nonprofit enlists the help of individuals and companies, like Gas South, to serve as its elves and fulfill the wishes. And then, The Salvation Army ensures that all participating families receive their gifts just in time for the holidays.

At Gas South, giving back to the communities we serve is the cornerstone of our mission to create a culture of caring. That’s why our employees donated 25 Angels and 25 stockings filled with gifts this year. From our Gas South family to yours, happy holidays!

#Winning at the 2016 PRSA Georgia Awards Celebration

This past Thursday, the Georgia Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) awarded Gas South with a Phoenix Award at the 2016 Awards Celebration. These awards bring an entirely new meaning to the “blue plate special.” See what I mean?

Only 75 Phoenix Awards were presented out of more than 200 entries, and we were honored to take home a Phoenix for our 10-day event commemorating Gas South’s 10-year anniversary.

The event series, titled “10 Days of Gas South,” celebrated our achievements across Gas South’s first 10 years in business, recognized and rewarded employees, and built excitement for what’s to come in the next decade.

Each day featured a different theme. My personal favorite was probably day five’s theme –“Aren’t you glad you work at Gas South?” Employees wore their new Gas South anniversary polos and snapped selfies. The excitement about the next day’s anniversary party was palpable, and it was great to see everyone interacting and having a great time while sporting their new attire!

During the 10-day event, we engaged all of Gas South’s employees through at least one activation. The Marietta Daily Journal, Business RadioX and Metro Atlanta CEO covered our anniversary celebration with a combined reach of 150,000 impressions. On our social media channels, our anniversary-focused content helped to increase month-over-month engagement by 167 percent on Twitter and 810 percent on Facebook.

Gas South’s 10th year has been a momentous one, and receiving the PRSA Georgia Phoenix Award for our anniversary celebration is just another example of the #1 workplace environment we’re cultivating every day. #Winning
